Introduction to Modo

Interface and Workflow with Gennaro Esposito

Modo is a powerful 3D tool used in the film, game and design industries. Known for its intuitive interface and artist friendly approach, this title provides a jump start for users new to the software. In this lecture, 3D Artist Gennaro Esposito provides a thorough introduction to Modo 12 while demonstrating the core toolset for navigation, selection, modeling, unwrapping, texturing, lighting, shading and rendering. Through the creation of a professional asset designed by Oscar Cafaro, he delves into the user interface and viewport, then demonstrates the main modeling tools, the procedural modeling approach, Mesh Fusion and the topology tools. He explains how to create UVs, how to utilize 3D paint and how to manage lighting, shaders and rendering, as well as multi-pass compositing. While an introductory title, students will learn how Modo’s efficient workflow fits into production as a powerful complement to any pipeline.

He is an reliable artist with a spontaneous inclination for the team work, since he arrived his first goal has been to help the team, always pushing and learning , more than successfully, his abilities as modeller (already strong ) and as Generalist becoming an autonomous artist in the team!

  • I had to chance to work with Gennaro since the beginning of his career in 3D/VFX; at that time he had already a lot of experience in Motion Graphics. Since the beginning I noticed his potential and his great skills. I can honestly tell he improved himself so much in a so short amount of time that I was impressed; he was eager to learn like few people in the industry, always open to critics and suggestions, and always willing to do more and more going over his limits to improve his skillset in the more efficient way possible. His specialties is Hard-Surface modelling, but he's great also in the organic ones, everything topped with great eye for texturing and lookdev. He never give up, he's full of energy and proactive, so it's always good to have him on board on complex projects. Everything it's also topped by an amazing attitude, funny and always available to help his colleagues, that makes him a great team oriented professional. Can't wait to work with him again.
